I’m an experienced design researcher, copywriter, and translator. I use Japanese and Dutch for all three services.
As a design researcher, I draw out insights about people’s behaviour, and underlying motivations, desires, hopes and struggles so that organisations can better understand their users, stakeholders, or constituents.

I create clean, compelling prose that conveys the mood, attitude and message of the client. I’m also an eagle-eyed editor that’s allergic to waffle.
I’ve worked with clients including EIT Climate-KIC, leading Dutch architectural studios Bentham Crouwel and Marc Koehler Architects, Japanese conglomerate Marubeni, the Amsterdam city government, and product and design studio AQ.
I translate from Japanese > English and Dutch > English.
I have experience as an interpreter for presentations, interviews, and meetings from Japanese > English.
I can transcribe Japanese audio directly into English. This is useful for projects conducted in Japan for non-Japanese clients.
“I’m always looking for excuses to work with Sophie because she’s the best kind of collaborator.
She brings with her a mix of positive energy, open mindedness, critical rigor and quick footwork to projects that makes the hard parts feel fun, important and attainable for everyone involved.”
– Chris Palmieri, Managing Director and co-founder of AQ
